What We Did

Some eight-freestyle shows for your enjoyment...although we must point out that this is just a few of the shows we have produced, written, choreographed, showcalled and directed. We have done too many to list them all so here we include a few faves and the ones we think might impress you, whether by size or by namedropping...and of course, it won't be as good as actually being there...rest assured, they were great!"

Eight-Freestyle – CV Highlights.

‘HM the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Visit to Her Armed Forces’
June 2002 – Portsmouth Naval Base (Client: Ministry of Defence)

A one-hour show for the Queen and an invited service audience to showcase the Armed forces at work. The challenges were to depict a fully tri-service story (i.e. including ships and aircraft) on a green field site and show every job, every rank and every cap badge in an engaging, credible and entertaining outdoor event.

I spent 4 months researching the background detail of the services as I wrote the script, which would show the forces in a dynamic and theatrical three-part story seen through the eyes of television news.
Part one was a beach landing featuring the Amphibious forces entitled ‘Theatre Entry’, part two a trench battle with Tanks and infantry entitled ‘Combat’ and the final piece was in the wreckage of a war-torn village with actors playing refugees, this was called ‘Peace Support’. All the flying and sea sequences were shown on giant flown screens that interacted with the live action on the huge outdoor sets.  The final sequence was a separate indoor walkthrough, which showcased the ‘behind the scenes’ regiments of ‘Support Services’

I directed 600 troops on 4 separate stage-sets over a 5-day rehearsal period. I directed all the studio footage, shooting of original material and editing and collation of library stock. I called the entire show including VT, Live cameras, Sound, LX, actors, vehicles, set movements, etc, etc. I also designed the t-shirt!

‘Ghosts – (A Story of Evolution and Discovery)’
June 2000 - International Chemotherapy Conference - Opening Ceremony, ICC

Taking the themes of Macrobiotic Resistance and Birmingham and combining them into a moving piece of theatre was just the sort of challenge I enjoy! I devised and co-wrote a script, which linked Darwin’s theories of Evolution to the ‘Lunar Society’ of 17th Century midlands scientists, industrialists and inventors (Watt, Wedgwood, Erasmus Darwin, etc) and on through time to Watson and Crick’s discovery of the DNA double helix. With a troupe of 8 actors playing multiple roles on a minimal set which variously represented the full moon, the deck of HMS Beagle, the Galapagos Islands and Birmingham New Street Station, the story was narrated by Darwin’s ghost to a modern boy anxiously awaiting his mother’s recovery from a bacterial disease. The show was to a highly educated audience of professors and medical experts and therefore needed meticulous research to be credible as well as entertaining. I devised, co-wrote, directed actors and video footage and called the show.
